This a cutout from the 1992 Israeli countour map of the West Bank. At that time the settlement of Itamar had already been in existence for eight years, but the "outposts" that would confiscate land and encircle Yanoun had not yet been established. Then came the Madrid peace conference, followed by the Oslo agreement in 1993, and the establishment of the the Palestine National Authourity (PNA), which was Palestinian, but had no authority in the Yanoun region. Settlement activity intensified in the Oslo years, although supposedly curtailed. Yanoun became a tiny enclave encircled my Jewish settlements. |
