1846 Fort Benton built to trade with the Blackfeet.
1859 Lt. John Mullan starts building the Mullan road from Walla Walla to Fort Benton.
1860 The Mullan road completed to Fort Benton.
1860 The first two steamboats make it all the way to Fort Benton in July.
